In Michigan, a private citizen carrying out this shoot would be criminally liable for manslaughter and civilly liable for wrongful death.

This is a sad event. I must say NY police have a bad habit of shooting not only bad guys, but innocents too.?

This officer fired 8 shots at a man who was "initially"  holding a 9mm pistol to the head of the young woman, while using his other arm to hold her in a head lock?  Now if all home owners / occupants were OCing and this guy entered the house I see a very different ending if they had proper training.
"It is now more likely that a person will be the victim of a violent crime than that he will be in an auto accident. Despite this, most people readily believe that the existence of the police relieves them of the responsibility to take full measures to protect themselves."
