Hi, everybody.  Moved to Michigan in August.  I'm a Lifetime NRA member and politically active.  Was a holder of the Indiana Lifetime carry permit. 

Has there been legislation to repeal handgun registration?
Any bills for a lifetime carry permit?

There has been work to eliminate pistol registration over the past few years, but the bills either get altered or don't move. There is currently an effort in Lansing to alter the registration process and how the information can be accessed. It's not everything we want, but it's a step.

I've not heard of anything for lifetime carry permits. To be honest, I don't believe such a bill is feasible in our current climate. We have good senate and fairly good house, but the governor's office is not our friend.

The NICS waiver only is valid if the permit's length does not exceed 5 years. There has been discussion about making our current CPL a lifetime permit, but this gets brought up every time that discussion happens.

What about the idea of a permit that has to be renewed every 5 years only without paying the $100 fee every time?  It seems like for renewals, the fee should be much lower.   Has this ever been discussed?

A reduction of the renewal has been discussed. If you read SB 213 (currently dead), you will see there is a modest reduction for renewals.
