Colorado Open Carrier Sues Cops, Wins $23K

I thought the original story was posted here but couldn't find it.  Anyway...

A man who sued police in Colorado Springs, Colo., for violating his Second Amendment rights has reportedly won more than $23,000 from the city, as local officers apparently did not know it was legal to “open carry” firearms at public parks.

(It had been legal for a decade!)

Apparently their "field manuals" did not have the up-to-date laws regarding open carry, which is why they continued to detain him. 

Stuff like this that worries me about LEO encounters.

In previous interviews with local news stations, Sorensen said, “They had the gall to say, ‘Ignorance of the law is no excuse,’ and yet they are the ones that are ignorant of the law.”

I can understand why he was upset. I don't necessarily agree with him being so loud.  Almost as if he wanted to escalate the situation. Shame on the police force for being ten years behind on their laws.  Sergeants at that so they have been around. With so much attention on firearms today you would think firearm laws training would be a priority.  I believe police officers have a duty to self educate themselves on laws just like I have to keep my self educated regarding my profession.   Just saying.

He didn't "win" any lawsuit. The city settled. Still and all -- it was a sizable settlement.

I think it was pretty cool that he was promoting gun rights at a the homosexual pride festival and that he had the guts to do it the day after the Aurora shooting.
