Perhaps they object to the realization that even with all their doomsday scenarios they do not work and will not save lives until someone with a gun gets there and neutralizes the threat.

The teachers should be trained.

I think it's wrong when they subject kids to such mental torture and make them afraid of school but the teachers are adults and should be prepared. 

I hear that you default to the level of training that you have mastered in a life or death situation and if you don't have any training you will likely freeze, panic and be useless in helping.
