OC while fishing

what are the laws pertaining to OC on a boat. i have a CPL. my friend does not. i assume we have different sets of rules. not trying to piss off DNR this season or create a big issue if we get stopped by them while fishing

If you don't have a CPL, don't carry on a boat. It's a vehicle. See MCL 750.227

That sounds fine unless the pier becomes a means of conveyance if the dock suddenly breaks away from land and starts to float around the lake....

Wouldn't that only apply to boats with motors? Is a rowboat, canoe, or kayak a vehicle if it does not have a motor?

I'm arguing that a canoe is a vehicle and you are IN it. FWIW, I don't think the in/on argument will work with many judges/prosecutors -- that's my opinion. No, I don't care to debate my opinion

thats what i was getting at. ill be fine with a CPL. my friends not so much. he has a 8 year DQ on his record and cant get his cpl

I thought we hashed out the OC without CPL on a bicycle and it was determined by one or more attorneys here that it was okay.  He had a lengthy thread about it in the Legal section which is now hidden/turned off.

I don't think it really matters what my opinion, your opinion or anyones opinion is.  All that is going to matter is the Judge or Jury you are standing in front of.  I tell people all the time that think that their opinion is right, "Go ahead and try it, if you have the determination and the money to pay for your lawyers to prove your opinion is right DO IT".
