Kent Co. clerk: ‘Holes’ in the new CPL process
« on: January 12, 2016, 08:42:26 AM »
“There are holes in the system. It is not perfect and I am quite concerned about it,” Kent County Clerk Mary Hollinrake said. “Whether various people are being facetious or not, but I have heard people say, ‘I may not have been approved by the board. I think I can get approved now. There is no local scrutiny now.'”

I sent the following email to the reporter this morning.

Hello Heather,

Some of your coverage of the elimination of gun boards last night was not correct or was given without context.

For starters, very few applicants were ever asked to appear before a board so the interviews were not required.

Also, the comment about people applying after the elimination of the board because they didn't think the board would approve them is absolutely true, but that is because the board were abusing the very little authority they had. This is why they were eliminated.

I'll also note that Mrs. Hollinrake was influential in the crafting of the bills and testified in favor of them in committee.

Next time you cover the topic or if you would like to provide more context now, please reach out, I'm happy to help.

I can explain the spike another way....  CPL Instructors told people to not apply for permits in November, wait until December when the license will be processed by MSP.
When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are in peace. Luke 11:21

Then He said to them, “But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one."  Luke 22:36

It'd be better to apply on 11/30 and get the best of both worlds.

If you applied on 11/30, then you didn't get the receipt that would turn into a license at 45 days.
