Woodhaven Uncle Sam Jam 7-12-13

As some of you may be aware, the promoter for the Uncle Sam Jam in Woodhaven on July 11th to the 14th said on their site weapons were prohibited. We contacted the city officials in Woodhaven and were told by the Chief of Police that all people are welcome to attend, including legal gun owners. We are planning to have a gathering there on July12th at about 6pm to put this to the test. Details as to where to meet up at are being worked out and will be posted here when determined.

Please make sure that attendees know they need to have a valid CPL.

On these type of things, I have always said I would go if I was planning to go otherwise. Since I wasn't planning to go to this, I don't plan to be going.

Good point. I am not sure if they have their beer tents cordoned off if you would need a CPL, unless you went into one, but having a  CPL removes the risk.

Some of us are meeting around 6:00 PM at the Tim Hortons across the street and from there driving to the venue parking lot.

Here is a PDF of the email from the Woodhaven Chief of Police regarding firearms at the festival. I would recommend that anyone attending and open carrying print this out and have it with them, as well as having your CPL as we are unsure how their beer tents are set up.

Yea they were and they cited that the whole venue fell under the Michigan Liquor Control Act since there were no fixed beer tents and consumption was allowed throughout the venue. The also cited there were school activities (didn't see anything indicating that personally) in the venue. Funny thing about the Beer carts is they were sponsored by Oakland and Macomb County child advocacy groups. We spoke to the Chief of Police there and he was very polite and professional. He said something to the effect that the CPL checks were to keep the city council happy. All in all a good day, except for the walk from the back 40 of the parking lot in a near swamp lol. Only kids that were screaming were the ones on the rides. Passed out some trifolds to interested people, had some good conversations with many people.
