Just got back from Oakwood Hospital & Medical Center in Dearborn. Greyfoxx (my girlfriend) has some pain in her hand/wrist. They couldn't figure it out, but I had an interesting time. OC'd in and checked in and sat in waiting room for about an hour when I was approached by security and asked to come with them. Went into the security room where four guards surrounded me and asked about my gun. The supervisor was polite and seemed fairly well-informed. She told me the hospital has a no firearms policy and other people were nervous. She "requested" that I lock it in the car. (While she and I were talking, two of the male guards were making idiotic comments in response to my statements about it being legal, etc. They kept "threatening" to call the police and see how I liked arguing with them. One said "I'm security here and we don't even carry guns. You make me nervous.") Security supervisor escorted me outside to wait for a security vehicle to drive me to my van in the parking structure. I stand there waiting for a while and what should I see? Why multiple Dearborn squad cars pulling in, of course. Before you all jump the gun though, the officers were there because of me, but all of the officers were extremely polite. They did not take my gun or my ID. They didn't even ask for it. (The security supervisor had briefly examined my ID and CPL inside and wrote down my name.) The officers and I chatted for a few minutes and they talked to the security supervisor. The officers supervisor arrived slightly behind, so after he had gotten caught up on the situation he asked if I had a CPL, I said yes, and he said Ok, you're all legal then, but they want you to lock it in the car. (Mr. Nervous Security Guard's jaw about hit the floor then. lol) Told him I'd already agree'd to and was just waiting for the hospital's security escort. Another officer asked my name / contact info for their report, which I gave him and then everyone went their merry way. I locked up my gun and had no further issues. Although the doctor who saw Greyfoxx chatted with me about it (He has a CPL) and I gave him a tri-fold. All in all a pretty good experience as a lot of people learned about the laws. I'm not a fan of being disarmed, but it is what it is. Yay hospitals *insert eye-rolling*
I have to say I am extremely impressed with the Dearborn officers, especially considering my last contact with them was a full felony stop at gunpoint in the Fairlane Mall parking lot.
