open (or concealed) carry at work

Hello all.  If I've posted in the wrong section please move as appropriate.
I recently wore an EMPTY holster to work to make a point that one employee doing a certain task is allowed to carry while others, doing the same task, are not.  i work in a city government in Michigan.  I was spoken to by TOP management, and told to never do it again.  Now, please keep in mind it was an EMPTY holster.  One employee is allowed to carry, and he doesn't completely conceal the holster.  The Personnel Director said it is like having another cop. (paraphrased)  There are others that are doing the same job that are not allowed to carry.

About ten years ago we had a disgruntled employee come in to allegedly kill a person.  The alleged target carried a pistol that day.  It almost certainly saved his life.  I'm being told that's what police are for.  The police were NOT there in that incident.

I am trying to get approval for properly licensed persons to carry. thoughts?

Is "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" a viable alternative?

What did they do to the armed crime victim ten years ago? Is his fate preferable to being a victim?

The armed victim was never charged.  He was in fact complimented (unofficially) for his correct reading of the situation.

My life is NOT worth my job.  (If you wonder who said that, um... I did.  8-)

That is a joke.  I was told today that the job, except for one employee, to carry a gun is that of the police department.  When asked if I could have an officer accompany me all day I was laughed at.

It's not funny to me.

I'm thinking I'd just carry 'under the radar' and if it causes a problem some day, consider filing a discrimination suit claiming that others in your job description have carried with the encouragement of management, so how can they fire you for doing what they knowingly allowed Joe Blow to do all those years?

I don't see how carrying concealed with CPL could cause you anything more serious than job loss, unless you work in a courthouse, jail, or school.

But the suggestion logically followed what they told him immediately before he made it.

My employer will provide armed escorts through the parking lot to anyone who requests it.

Well, it's not over yet.  I'm investigating the enforcement of the provision of MI law that allows employers to prohibit CPL holders from carrying in the course of their employment and whether or not the only person allowed to make that determination is one of the two people who carries.

I'll continue to post as I get word because I know that this will affect WAY more than the persons working at my place of employment.

Since you are an at-will employee they can make just about any rules they want.
