My new OC 1911

I finally got around to outfitting my new Firestorm full size 1911 to my liking so it entered the OC rotation today.  This thing has been flawless at the range but I wanted to change out the extended slide stop it came with for a standard one and make some new grips for it.  I picked up the slide stop from Brownells's for a good price and a cabinet maker friend of mine gave me some maple with some nice grain in it and I made the grips this week.

Anyway, here it is.

By the way, just noticed your signature line... how true. Now to get my wife to understand that!

Thanks Jeff.  To be honest 1911 grips are pretty easy to make.  As long as you have an original set to use a template a set can be knocked out in a couple of hours (not counting drying time for whatever finish is on them...I use tung oil).  I've made a router/drill template to speed the process up a bit and having access to a full wood shop helps quite a bit too  ;D

As for the sig. line I thought it particularly appropriate for OC and other 2A issues.

bronson the guns is great the grips are beautiful
I would personally never carry wood grips
they get to slippery when your hands sweat if in an incident

Different strokes.  I don't like rubber grips because they drag on clothing and are a pain in the butt.  I have a set of Alumagrips on my Browning Hi Power that are very nice.

I haven't really thought about it.  Are you looking for something particular?  My wood selection is fairly limited right now.  I've made them from oak, maple, and bubinga.  I think I've got some cherry floatin' around and maybe some walnut.

Yup, a standard 1911 grip panel is 1/4" thick.  Slim line grip panels are 5/32" thick.  They do require the grip bushings and screws to be replaced with slim line versions.  I picked up a set of stainless slim line bushings and hex hed screws for about $12.00 from Fusion Firearms.
